Queenslanders can expect a much needed rebate on their power bills with the government unveiling a key cost of living package only months out from the next election.

'Biggest cost of living initiative by a state government ever': Millions of Aussies set to get $1,000 handout to help with energy bills

The payments will be applied to household bills from July, which will mean most Queenslanders will not pay “a single cent” on their first power bill of next financial year. The measure is expected to exceed $2.5 billion in value and will come from coal royalties. Mr Miles said the direct return to households was in recognition of the increased financial pressures of growing everyday expenses such as mortgage repayments and rent.

A YouGov survey published last week found the Labor Party was headed for a significant defeat, with David Crisafulli's LNP leading the government 56-44 in the two-party-preferred stakes."We've known for some time that David Crisafulli and the LNP are ahead and most likely to win the next election," he told reporters on the weekend. The state government’s funded support of $325 off power bills for small businesses will also continue.

Mr Miles said he had been told by his constituents inflation and rising expenses were their “biggest concern”.Deputy Premier and Treasurer Cameron Dick said “every single household” would receive relief to help Queensland families “make ends meet”.
