The DWP says it has recruited 2,000 targeted case review agents to look at Universal Credit claims
Millions of Universal Credit recipients are bracing for a financial scrutiny as the Department for Work and Pensions ramps up efforts to clamp down on fraud and error.
As of April 2024, there are 6.67 million individuals on Universal Credit in the UK. Claimants will be put through their paces, required to provide ID, four months' worth of bank statements, and evidence supporting housing costs, income, savings, self-employment status, dependents, childcare expenses, health conditions, student loans, and any caring duties.
Highlighting the importance of their work, the DWP stated: "This demonstrates the vital role Targeted Case Reviews are playing in addressing unreported changes in circumstances, reminding customers of their commitment to keep us updated on changes to their circumstances to help them avoid unnecessary debt, and catching those trying to take advantage of the welfare system."
