Millions of renters to pay up to £721 more per year on energy if landlord net zero targets axed

Rishi Sunak is reportedly planning to axe a number of his party's key green policies, including tougher energy efficiency standards for landlords

Meanwhile, 623,000 renters in England are living in a home with an EPC rating of E or below. Those with an EPC rating of F are facing the highest bills and will be paying an average of £2,321 per year from October, according to ECIU’s data.EPC C rating and £822 more than someone living in a home with an EPC A rating.

Jess Ralton, head of energy at ECIU, said: “Scrapping energy efficiency regulations set for five years’ time essentially shows the Conservatives are on the side of the landlords rather than the renters.the worst standards of housing “It speaks of chaos at the heart of Government for the leadership to be scrapping such a common-sense measure.”
