The DVLA warns UK drivers aged 70 and over that their driving licences will expire if they don't renew them every three years. Failure to renew could result in fines, insurance voiding, and even vehicle seizure.

The DVLA has flagged up a pressing matter for UK drivers, as millions of licences might soon become invalid. Licences are usable for 10 years after they are issued, but then they need to be renewed. For those aged 70 and over, licences must be renewed every three years to avoid harsh penalties. In an alert on X on Wednesday, DVLA issued a reminder, saying: 'If you're 70 or over, you need to renew your driving licence every 3 years.

Do it online – you'll get your new licence within a week!' Failure to order a replacement will mean licence holders will no longer be legally allowed to drive after their 70th birthday. It is estimated that there are millions of drivers aged 70 and above in the UK. Neglecting to renew could mean driving illegally after your 70th birthday, with potential fines of £1,000. Driving with an invalid licence also voids insurance - and you could even have your vehicle seized. To renew, you can complete a D46P application form, which the DVLA will send to you 90 days before your 70th birthday, or you can pick one up at your local Post Office. Alternatively, you can apply to renew your licence online here
