The extensive operation spanned across Europe, clamping down on those distributing unauthorised content
As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, it's perhaps no shock that millions have resorted to illegal streaming.
It's estimated that those involved in the streaming operations were raking in over €250 million a month, marking a significant win for content providers who had been losing out. Alongside shutting down illegal movie and football streams, numerous devices used to deliver content to homes were seized.
And Matt Hibbert, group director of anti-piracy at Sky added: "This sends a strong message that, alongside our partners, we are committed to dismantling pirate networks across borders and holding their ringleaders accountable. We will continue supporting efforts to end digital piracy and protect consumers from the risks of these illegal services."
Kieron Sharp, CEO of FACT, issued a stern warning regarding the new crackdown: "Our cease-and-desist measures are not just warnings-they are the first step toward holding offenders accountable. Many who ignored these notices in the past are now facing arrest and criminal charges. We strongly advise anyone involved in these activities to stop immediately."
