Cambridgeshire's biggest recycling centre is going to be completely rebuilt.

Cambridgeshire's biggest recycling centre is set to close for nine months from the autumn of 2025 for redevelopment work.

The county council said the new site at Milton, north of Cambridge, would be larger and include a "purpose-built re-use area", with more parking for vehicles.A booking system at three other sites - Witchford, Bluntisham and Thriplow - would be introduced during the closure.Planning permission for the current facility was linked to the operations of the landfill site next door.

"With the life of the landfill site coming to an end, we needed to decouple the two permissions," said Lorna Dupre, chair of the environment and green investment committee at the council. She said the authority "took the opportunity to develop plans for a new, larger and more modern facility that will help residents continue to recycle safely and easily".

The online booking system at the other sites - which was temporarily introduced during the Covid pandemic - would "help to reduce queues and waiting times, and aim to ensure residents can visit the three sites at a time convenient to them".Oesophageal cancer 10-minute sponge trial startsHow a 116-year-old club forged a path to a new home
