Community members claim multiple board members have submitted late and unfinished financial reports.

Milwaukee parents and community members on Wednesday launched an effort to recall some of the city’s school board members.

“We feel like they were the ones who over the years played a huge role in deception and not being transparent with the community,” community member Tamika Johnson, who is leading the recall effort, said. “They intentionally did things that they should not have done to harm the community and other leaders in the community and our students.”

This fight is not just about the mismanagement of funds or the withholding of special education aid. This fight is a big fight. This is a big fight that is long overdue,” Tamika Johnson argued. “It is about the countless families who fall victim to a corrupt system centered on greed and capitalism, not on the children and families it’s supposed to serve.”

We trusted that our hard-earned taxpaying dollars would be used responsibly to improve the outcomes of student achievement and increase the opportunities for our children to engage in more arts, physical education and, more importantly, reading and mathematics,” Tamika Johnson said.
