Australian producer Michael Cassel, who helped bring Hamilton to Australian theatres, went from knowing very little about it to having“I deliberately didn’t read anything about Alexander Hamilton,” he said about seeing the show on Broadway in 2015.“So I went in a complete novice, and partly it was because I thought, ‘OK, if your show is so good, then prove it’.Cassel spoke with Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller and agreed that when the time came, he would help bring the show to Australia.
The production, design, staging and choreography seen in Brisbane are a replica of Hamilton on Broadway.Cassel said people could expect the show to honour the original Broadway musical. “He wanted to better himself and make a life for himself and influence his adopted country, rising to become the Treasury secretary.”
Kuo, who had not visited Brisbane in 10 years, said audiences in the quickly evolving city would feel a sense of familiarity about the show.“This is obviously a city people are wanting to grow in – it’s an up-and-coming city – so I think Hamilton will resonate,” he said.
