The new Office of Civil Defense Administrator, Ariel Nepomuceno, takes over as Mindanao provinces reel from days of rain and flash floods.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Office of Civil Defense Administrator Raymundo Ferrer was supervising government relief operations in Northern Mindanao on Thursday, December 29 when news of his removal broke.
Balay Mindanaw is distributing SkyHydrants, a water filtration systems donated by Disaster Aid Australia, to the flood-stricken province of Misamis Occidental. He was among the BOC officials tagged by then-senator Panfilo Lacsion in the “tara” or bribe money scandal that same year. Ferrer, a retired general, held many senior command positions during his time with the Armed Forces of the Philippines .
The RDRRMC 10 also recorded three other deaths in Misamis Oriental, and two in Bukidnon bringing the total number of the dead to 24, as of 3 pm Thursday.
