Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has joined calls for Sinn Féin to answer questions on what they knew about Michael McMonagle's employment after a report found that there may have been a misuse of public funds when he was employed by multiple Sinn Féin elected representatives including First Minister Michelle O'Neill with contracts totaling 80 hours per week.
He began full-time employment with Ms O’Neill as a press/research adviser in March 2020 and worked for her until the end of May of that year. It said at an “unspecified date” in March 2020 he also began employment with Sinn Fein as a press officer on a part-time basis.Speaking to the media at an event on Wednesday, the Communities Minister said that the report has raised a number of questions which remain unanswered.
"There are absolutely questions for Sinn Féin to answer and we need to make sure that we look at the report, that we look at possible recommendations and possible reform that needs to take place b ecause we need to make sure that the public has confidence.
