Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has faced calls to resign after a man was told to leave a protest by the force as he was"openly Jewish".
Labour’s shadow justice secretary Shabana Mahmood also stated that she did not think that “the resignation of the Met’s Commissioner is the way forward”. “They have got to make sure they police the protests in line with the laws of our land, and enforce the laws of our land.” On Sunday, the Board of Deputies of British Jews called for an urgent meeting with the Met Commissioner, claiming that “a series of high-profile errors” had had a “devastating effect on the previously high level of trust held by the UK’s Jewish community in the police”.
Policing minister Chris Philp said on Saturday he was “deeply concerned” and would meet Sir Mark the following week to discuss the issue.
