Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick has rejected the Home Secretary’s description of an influx of asylum seekers to the UK as an “invasion” 🗣️ 'I would never demonise people coming to this country in pursuit of a better life'
It comes despite reports on Tuesday that Ms Braverman refused to sign off on hotel bookings for asylum seekers at Manston last week “because they were in Tory areas”.
A senior Government source told LBC that the Home Secretary was presented with options for locations to move refugees from the overcrowded site in Kent, but would not approve those in Conservative seats.over her handling of the UK migrant crisis following claims that severe overcrowding at the Manston asylum processing centre marked a “breach of humane conditions”.
“There are now 4,000 people in a facility that was designed to hold 1,500. That is wholly unacceptable,” he told BBC Radio 4’sprogramme. “This situation should never have been allowed to develop, and I’m not sure that it hasn’t almost been developed deliberately.”had resulted in outbreaks of scabies and diphtheria, while admitting that there had been confirmed cases of the latter.
“There have been four cases of diphtheria at the site but those are all individuals who came into the site with that condition,” he said. “The conditions at Manston are not as we would want them to be. There’s a task for us now to improve them. The issue is the sheer number of migrants across the Channel in recent weeks and that’s putting immense pressure on the infrastructure that was created.”
