A report into the UK Aid Match scheme raises questions over the extent to which it is being used to maximise publicity for government ministers and allowing them undue influence over which projects are prioritised.
UK Aid Match is a government scheme designed to “give the public a greater say in how UK aid is spent” by matching public funding from the aid budget with donations given to charity appeals. In order to meet the eligibility criteria charities must comply with publicity requirements which include a certain amount of positive visibility for their appeal which must feature ministers.
