🔴 Ministers promise extra £250m to buy care home beds and ease pressure on NHS 👉 Around 13,000 people who are fit to be discharged occupy hospital beds in England

Health and Social Care Secretary Steve Barclay will today announce another £200m is being made available to immediately buy short-term care placements in Care Quality Commission approved facilities, allowing people to be discharged safely from hospitals into the community where they will receive the care they need to recover before returning to their homes.

“It’s not surprising that politicians are apparently leaning towards enabling the NHS to access more care home beds, because this may appear to them to be a ‘quicker fix’ than anything else,” she said. Ms Abrahams said it is “beyond dispute that poverty pay is the core reason for the huge numbers of vacancies hollowing out the social care services” and that the only credible solution is for. “For as long as this doesn’t happen we fear the current situation in social care is set to go on getting worse.”
