The mum of murdered Chantel Taylor has asked the woman to come forward
The mum of a young woman brutally murdered with a meat cleaver has appealed for a mystery woman to come forward after she reportedly made startling comments about the case outside a Primark.
On June 6 this year, detectives arrested a 50-year-old man from Birkenhead on suspicion of assisting an offender. He was questioned and has been released on bail pending further investigation. Ms Taylor told the ECHO that on Thursday, September 14, a woman approached one of her volunteers who was manning a table outside the clothing store. She said: "There were quite a few people around when a woman in her 40s was sort of hanging back.
Ms Taylor told the ECHO: "If that woman comes forward it could help the detectives looking at the case." Wynne managed to get away with the murder for just over a year and was only caught after a bizarre arson attack on the Shah Jalal mosque in Borough Road, Birkenhead, supposedly in "revenge" for the London bombings earlier that month. When he was arrested for that incident, police found handwritten notes in his home referring to the death of a woman, and suspected he may be involved in Chantel's murder.
Wynne, who had been kicked out of the army for smoking cannabis, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years in prison, later reduced to 18 years on appeal. He has since had his first request for Parole rejected, although he has been allowed into open prison conditions after a legal battle between the Parole Board and the Ministry of Justice.
