Top Senate Republican rebuffs request for senior White House officials to testify, calling the inquiry ‘sloppy’ and ‘a fishing expedition’
Mitch McConnell, the top Republican in the US Senate who will control an impeachment trial should the House vote as expected on Wednesday to bring formal charges against Donald Trump, has rebuffed a Democratic request to call new witnesses and dismissed the process as a “sloppy … fishing expedition”.
