Mitch Starc blasted into Hyderabad's top order, Travis Head was removed for a golden duck and Pat Cummins admitted his side was 'outplayed' as Kolkata won the IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders clinched its third Indian Premier League title after it dismantled the batting powerhouse of Sunrisers Hyderabad for only 113 runs and went on to win the final by eight wickets with 57 balls remaining on Sunday.
"This is what we demanded from the players and they stood up. It's difficult to express the feelings, so much to cherish right now. There was no one individual who took us here, it was a cumulative effort, it was a flawless season for us." Cummins had won the toss and chose to bat first, but his team got deflated inside the first seven overs as they limped to 47-4 against an impeccable attack of Starc, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora .
Starc's three-over spell in the power play gave Kolkata another wicket when Rahul Tripathi top-edged the Australian left-arm quick. It was heartbreak for Hyderabad, which had toppled IPL batting records throughout the season and scored over 265 three times during the league stage where it finished second behind Kolkata.
