Three weeks ago, local students auditioned for band programs at various historically black colleges and universities.
) - Representatives from 18 different schools were there. One student in attendance was Davidson High School student Robert Miskel.
“Honestly, it went better than I expected,” said Mikel. “I was expecting to having to redo it but a lot of them actually really liked my playing. So I got a scholarships from Alabama A&M, which was the main one I was going for.”“They actually want to see what you can do as a person. So I was playing the scales that I needed and the music I had prepared.”
Miskel received offers from Alabama State University, Talladega college, Edward Waters College and Mississippi Valley State University.“It felt really good and I was glad to be a part of it,” said Abrams.Aside from that school, the Tuba player received offers from Alabama A&M and ASU. The standout talked more about preparation and how playing football and having to return on the field after a game to play in the band helped.
