Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson placed his police chief on administrative leave last week. Now, he wants him gone permanently.

The chief says he welcomes a deeper dive by the council and is he's confident in what those findings will be.The mayor on Friday sponsored a resolution on Tuesday’s council agenda to remove Paul Prine from office. The measure requires support from at least five of the seven council members.sponsored by Council members C.J. Small and William Carroll for a council-led investigation of up to 90 days. The resolution cites a number of allegations leveled at and by Prine.

Among the matters some council members say they want to investigation are statements by the mayor that chief cleaned out his desk and was derelict from his duties. Those are “fabricated and lies,” Prine said. “The council wasn’t asked to be brought into the situation. It certainly could have been handled a lot better, other than how we got here today. But nevertheless, I think they’ll do the right thing.”“Over the last ten days, we have all listened to allegations concerning city officials and their families, false accusations of impropriety and conspiracy theories. I’ve watched the negative impact this has had on our community long enough. It is time for the situation to be resolved.
