LYONS, Ga. — A Georgia girl who had been missing for over a week was found safe in Puerto Rico on Saturday. The girl's mother is now facing charges, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.
The 7-year-old girl was reported missing out of Lyons, Georgia, which is less than an hour southwest of Statesboro, Georgia, in the southeast part of the state. She had last been seen on March 29. The FBI said she was found with her mother, who does not have custody of the child, at a retail store in Puerto Rico around noon on April 6.
Lyons Police have charged the mother with Interstate Interference with Child Custody, and she will be extradited back to Georgia."Thanks to all the law enforcement agencies that assisted with this investigation. Lyon's Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, GBI, Toombs County DA’s Office, Candler County Sheriff’s office, and the Metter Police Department all played integral parts in this case," FBI Atlanta said in a statement.
