Niall Barry told a jury gunman James Witham 'opened up' about the crime
The man accused of organising the shooting that killed Ashley Dale told a jury the first he knew of the incident was when her killer blurted out he had "shot up" her home.
On Wednesday afternoon Barry told a jury that he had been "chilling" in the flat, which he was renting from his friend Michael Kershaw, and had been "absolutely f*****" from spending hours harvesting cannabis leaves from a crop he had been growing in one of the bedrooms. Barry said he told Witham he was "not ordering Charlie here" and Witham agreed to leave, which he did at around 10.10pm. He said Peers announced he was going home and also left.
"I’ve stayed on them shops. I know the area, I know there’s cameras everywhere. I knew no matter what it would have come out that he’d been there, into the flat after he’s just done whatever he’s done.” Barry said at that point he did not realise anyone had been hurt. He said: "He told me he shot the house up. I’m thinking he’s stood outside and shot through the windows. I know that’s a long way from what happened but that’s what he said."The jury heard Kershaw left the flat at around 3.40am and Witham left at 4.20am, leaving only Barry and Zeisz. Barry described how he went to sleep, and checked the Liverpool ECHO website when he awoke at 9.
