Sex trafficker Robert Enescu, 26, told Tahir Mehmood to drive the victim to a brothel in St Christian Road, Coventry, on February 20, 2018. But the taxi driver called police after picking up on the woman’s distress signals when they were left alone in his car.
Enescu had tricked the married hotel worker to come to the UK from his Romanian homeland after offering her work as a masseuse.She was initially kept hostage at a brothel in London before being moved to Coventry and forced to pose in lingerie on adult contact websites.told BirminghamLive‘I said ‘What’s up love? Why are you crying?’ I stopped the taxi and said ‘Just tell me what’s happened’. ‘She said ‘I don’t know here, I just came here four days before, come to here to do massage, but they tell me go to prostitution, to do sex, but I don’t want to do it. ‘Can you help me go back to my country? The man said I got to do prostitution sex but I don’t want to do it.’ ‘I said ‘Ok, I’ll call the police and they can help you. Don’t worry, the police will sort, the police will help you’.Mr Mehmood has been put forward for a commendation from West Midlands Police for his role in saving the woman.Robert Enescu was jailed for nine years in his absence after skipping bail Detective Constable Clive Leftwich, the officer in charge of the case, said: ‘She wanted Robert Enescu to be punished for what he’s done.‘She said she was concerned for the other girls she was staying with in London, because we weren’t able to find those actual ones.’ Enescu was found guilty of trafficking the victim and jailed for nine years in his absence after skipping bail.Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at
