The Uvalde school police chief politely asked the gunman at Robb Elementary School to put his weapon down after he opened fire in a classroom, new footage shows.
Parents of victims and members of the Uvalde community have called for Arredondo’s resignation since the massacre nearly two months ago. The response to the shooting has been widely criticized, with many feeling it took officers too long — 77 minutes — to confront and kill the gunman.
The investigation, conducted by a Texas House Committee, detailed a ‘lackadaisical approach’ by authorities who were sent into the elementary school to help, but were unable to follow the school’s active shooter plan. The school’s police chief ‘failed to perform or to transfer to another person the role of incident commander.
