Montana has barred popular social media platform TikTok in the first total ban of the Chinese-owned app in the United States.
Governor Gianforte announced he would also be prohibiting the use of all social media applications tied to foreign adversaries on state equipment and for state businesses in Montana effective on June 1.
Mr Gianforte had wanted to expand the bill to include a total ban on apps linked to foreign adversaries, but he had been unable to amend the bill until after it had passed. The state has already banned the app on government-owned devices, among several other states throughout the rest of the US. “I do think that things are trending in the right direction.
