Veteran NBA big man Nikola Vucevic led Montenegro's strong third-quarter assault as the European national squad pummeled Gilas Pilipinas, 102-87 in their friendly match on Sunday night, Aug. 20 in their closed-door game at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
The 32-year-old Vucevic led Montenegro with 18 points and nine rebounds, just one rebound shy of a double-double, providing the spark that saw his team explode for 32 points alone in the third period to grab a 76-64 lead.The Black Mountain kept the pressure and expanded their lead to 17 points, on two foul shots by Dino Radoncic, on the way to the comfortable win against the Philippines, which is on the final stretch of its own FIBA World Cup build up.
The visiting foreign squad also doubled the Philippines' three-point shots, making 10 of its own from beyond the arc.Montenegro also had more points off the bench, 51-36, while making 59.7 percent of its shots.June Mar Fajardo scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, while Dwight Ramos added 13 for Gilas.Young big man Kai Sotto went scoreless in 13 minutes of play.
