The mayor tried to veto an ordinance that includes majors and captains in pay raises for the Montgomery Police Department.
MONTGOMERY , Ala. - All Montgomery Police Department officers will now be receiving a 15% pay increase.
District 8 Councilman Glen Pruitt sponsored the ordinance and said he’s glad the pay raise now goes all the way to the top ranks. His main concern, though, is that the city explained to other public safety departments left out of a raise that MPD was prioritized due to the shortage of officers at the lower levels. Now that majors and captains are included, Reed says he feels the city went back on its word.
