Mayor Steven Reed says Montgomery is not only making progress in reducing crime, but also increasing opportunities for residents.
”We have fewer homicides this year than we did last year, down about 13% in that area, and roughly similar numbers, right around 12%, in the area of nonfatal shootings,” said Reed.
Construction is underway for the Calmar Community Center. Funds from the American Rescue Plan Act and the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Block Grant funded the project. The doors are expected to open in the spring of 2025. Sheridan Heights Community Center in District 3 is on track to be completed in December. Serving more than 10,000 visitors annually, this center will be revitalized with re-sealed bricks, new exterior doors and an upgraded kitchen. It will have new ceiling tiles, luxury vinyl tile and epoxy floors. The Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant gymnasium upgrades will include new bleachers and basketball goals.
