Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert has been placed on administrative leave.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert has been placed on administrative leave, Mayor Steven Reed’s office confirmed late Monday afternoon.
The mayor’s office provided no other details, but did say the reason for the administrative leave decision “will be announced when the matter is concluded.” Three City Council members said they have no comment on the matter. WSFA 12 News has not been able to reach the other members.Albert became Montgomery’s 15th police chief in March 2022, bringing more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement.
Albert came to the city from the New Orleans Police Department. He was a special operations division commander there, but there was a shake-up in that department that involved him.. The station reports that he faced an internal review of allegations that he violated the department’s policy on sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation while overseeing the crime lab. The investigation’s results were never disclosed by the department.
