Montgomery Police Department chaplain Antonio Seales has died at age 51.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Tuesday’s Montgomery City Council meeting was also a time of mourning, as city leaders confirmed the death of Montgomery Police Department chaplain Antonio Seales. He was 51 years old.
Seales began working with the police department in 2013, becoming the police chaplain in 2021. Alongside those duties, he also helped the department pioneer Operation Good Shepherd, which sought to provide support and encouragement to the families of loved ones affected by violence. His death was marked with a moment of silence at the council meeting. Mayor Steven Reed also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff.
“Pastor Seales’ service to the Montgomery Police Department and the community at large was invaluable. As an original member of the City’s Operation Good Shepherd program, his commitment to the well-being of the police force was evident long before his formal appointment as chaplain, consistently providing a calming presence for our officers. On behalf of Tamika and my family, we offer our most sincere condolences,” Reed said in a statement.
Acting Police Chief John Hall, also sent a statement saying, “Pastor Seales’s sudden departure has left us all at a loss for words, and we understand that this is a difficult time for everyone. We want to offer our deepest sympathies and support to Pastor Seales’ family and friends as they navigate through this profound loss. Although Pastor Seales is no longer physically with us, his legacy and spirit will forever remain a part of our department.
