The Gardeners' World presenter, Monty Don, opens up about his battle with depression and how it threatened his marriage. His wife, Sarah Erskine, issued an ultimatum, forcing him to make a significant lifestyle change to save their relationship.
Monty Don of Gardeners' World has had a successful professional career, but it hasn't been without personal struggles.
Monty and Sarah have been through thick and thin since their marriage in 1983, including a tough phase of bankruptcy in the 1980s after their jewellery business collapsed. He recounted the life-changing advice Sarah gave him: "We had no money, I had no work, she had three little children. She said, 'I just can't cope with you too if you're not prepared to help yourself go and see a doctor'. And I did go and see a doctor and I did that very male thing, I said 'My knee hurts'. He said 'Fine, okay, anything else? ' and then I burst into tears.
