Sheriff’s Department reports initial pilot program helped resolve retail theft, missing persons and assault cases
License plate-reading cameras have been so successful at crime-stopping this past year in Encinitas that the city is going to add 17 more of them. These solar-powered, high-speed, computer-controlled cameras are a “relatively low-cost solution” to fighting crime at a time when hiring new deputies can be challenging and costly, county Sheriff’s Department Capt. Chris Lawrence told the Encinitas City Council as he introduced the funding request Wednesday.
