More pain for struggling CarePoint Health: Hospital report card ranks Christ last in state for patient safetyCarePoint Health-Christ Hospital in Jersey City on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024. No hospital in the state is worse for patient safety than Jersey City’s Christ Hospital, according to the latest safety ratings, another hit for the flailing CarePoint Health System that manages half of Hudson County’s hospitals.
CarePoint’s other two hospitals performed better: Bayonne Medical Center received a “C” grade and Hoboken University Medical Center topped that with a “B.” Palisades Medical Center earned the county’s best grade, an “A.” Jersey City Medical Center received a “B” grade and Hudson Regional Hospital , which has plans to join with CarePoint Health hospitals under a new healthcare network being created by HRH owner Yan Moshe, earned a “C.”
Patients there are not adequately informed about their medicines or discharge plans, and staff were well below average in following protocol for safe administration of medication. Staff at Christ were also considered too slow to respond to patient needs and patients felt both doctors and nurses did not adequately listen to them and explain information to them.
Hospitals should work extra hard to earn the trust of communities that are generally skeptical of the healthcare system or individuals who do not have primary care doctors, said Tanesha Owens, an acute care nurse practitioner who founded All About You Healthcare Advocates to help patients navigate the healthcare system.
