The Met Office has issued further weather warnings for snow, ice and rain in Greater Manchester, with potential for flooding and travel disruption.
The Met Office has issued yet more snow, ice and rain warnings across parts of the UK, including in Greater Manchester. Forecasters put the yellow alerts in place on Sunday night (January 5). A snow and ice warning is in place, covering the entire region and other parts of northern England until 12pm today. A second rain warning was in place overnight, until 6am today.
Greater Manchester Police said areas at risk of potential flooding included Palatine Road in Didsbury, as well as Bramhall, Sale, Stockport, Urmston, and Altrincham. The force said emergency services are 'monitoring' the yellow alert to 'respond to any potential flood risk and minimise the impact on communities.' Heavy snow already fell across Greater Manchester yesterday, as the region was covered by two severe weather warnings. Two Met Office amber snow warnings were put in place throughout Sunday, after coming into force on Saturday. The region already woke up to a blanket of snow on Sunday morning, with roads closed and multiple delays and cancellations to flights to and from Manchester Airport amid the cold weather blast. The latest warnings come after the Environment Agency issued two alerts which outline the risk of potential flooding overnight and into Monday covering parts of Stockport, Sale, Stretford, Altrincham, Urmston, Cheadle, Wilmslow and Gatley. For today's rain warning, the Met Office said: 'Heavy rain and thawing snow leading to some flooding in places. Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer. Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.' A second yellow snow and ice warning, covering all of Greater Manchester and much of the north, read: 'Further snow in places, along with icy stretches, leading to some disruption, especially to travel. 'Some roads and railways affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle path
