He was very standoffish at first. He didn't have a lot of trust in the police," Williams said. "I really care about him.
Since then, the program has expanded to 16 social workers. They hoped to hire four more and have 20 people on the team. The CCC team was also only available Monday through Friday when it was new. Now, social workers are available every day of the week from 8:00 a.m. to midnight."The push toward police reform, plus more mental health awareness, and I think people are identifying what the needs are in the community more," she said.
In 2020, they had made contact with 1,400 people. In 2023, they made contact with more than double that — almost 4,000 people.
