More than 1,000 people died every day for 22 days at height of UK coronavirus crisis
At the time, the daily death toll only took hospital fatalities into account.
When Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab stepped for Boris Johnson, who was in hospital battling the killer bug, he announced on the April 9 the number of deaths had risen by 881.The Guardian reportsThree days earlier, Mr Raab announced the increase in daily deaths was 439, but the latest figures show it was in fact 1,210.Between those dates, 26,566 people died - which is more than half the total death toll of 52,161 deaths to 5 June.
The change to include deaths in all settings, including those without a Covid-19 test, was only made on April 29.
