Last year alone, 662 crimes - including the sharing and possession of indecent images of children - were recorded in Scotland.
More than 3,000 child abuse image offences have been recorded by Police Scotland in just five years, the NSPCC has revealed.
The charity is demanding the UK Government to establish a child safety advocate for the Online Safety Bill, which is currently making its way through the House of Commons. By doing so, it is hoped that the advocate would act as an early warning system to identify emerging child abuse risks. "I reported it to Instagram, but they still haven’t got back. I don’t want to tell the police because my parents would then know what I did and would be so disappointed.”
Top news stories today The Online Safety Bill was reintroduced last May. It is a proposal for legislation that aims to keep online platforms free of illegal and harmful material.
