The UK Government is due to respond to an online petition calling for the State Pension to match the National Living Wage.
More than 30,000 people have signed an online petition calling for the State Pension to be paid to all people in retirement at the same rate as the National Living Wage. The proposal, posted by Joseph Coyle, would see some 12.6 million pensioners receive £364.70 each week - equivalent to just under £19,000 a year.
The petition states: "The majority of pensioners have worked and contributed to society for decades, but the State Pension falls well below the income of someone working full-time at the National Living Wage. We want the Government to increase the State Pension to equal 35 hours a week at the living wage for 23 and over.”
The full Basic State Pension is worth £156.20 each week, some £624.80 every four-week period and over £8,122 over the coming year. Last week, the Office for National Statistics said CPI was 6.8 per cent in July, down from 7.9 per cent in June. But rising wages could lead to a jump in inflation as a result of increased spending.
But they could be in-line for payments of up to £220 per week and £168 if wages growth remains high - full payment estimations are at the bottom of this article.
