More than 500 people have been reported dead after a devastating magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit Turkey and northern Syria, with the death toll expected to continue rising.

Syria’s Civil Defence - a humanitarian organisation founded to rescue people in conflict - are on the ground attempting to save those trapped under rubble.

Across the border in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has confirmed all hands were on deck with all relevant service units were dispatched to assist AFAD, the country’s disaster and emergency department. “We also coordinate the works initiated after the earthquake. We hope that we will get through this disaster together as soon as possible and with the least damage, and we continue our work.”
