More than 600 Brits stranded on Caribbean cruise after five passengers test positive for coronavirus
If the British government cannot persuade countries in the region to allow the ship to dock, the Braemar could be forced to sail back to the UK with all passengers - including those with the virus - on board.
The Braemar was refused entry to the Dominican Republic in late February after eight people on board reported 'flu-like' symptoms. Peter Deer, managing director at Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, said: "When we took the decision to board people in St Maarten on March 2, we acted on the best advice available.
"Anyone remaining on the ship had been in the Caribbean for at least 14 days and there had been no known instances of the virus in the region.
