7,266 people were in temporary accommodation as of April 1, including 2,765 children according to the latest figures. 1,590 are living in hotel or bed and breakfast accommodation.

More than 7,000 homeless people are living in temporary accommodation in Glasgow, according to the latest figures.

The statistics were obtained by campaigns coordinator for the Scottish Tenants Organisation, Sean Clerkin who said the situation was a "disaster". "Families living in such unsuitable conditions will detrimentally affect them and their children damaging their physical and mental well-being to the extent that we have thousands of homeless children in Glasgow being damaged for life."

"In addition homeless services must be provided with extra emergency funding to improve temporary accommodation and to end homeless people being sent to substandard hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation lining the pockets of unscrupulous hotel owners." Shelter Scotland Director, Alison Watson, said: "What clearer evidence of Scotland's housing emergency could there be, than the fact that thousands of children in our largest city have nowhere to call home."
