The number of people on generous defined benefit schemes has dropped, leading more to rely on the state pension
Some 28 per cent of over-55s have no other pension saved apart from the state pension, according to interactive investor
At the same time, the number of people on gold-plated defined benefit pension schemes continues to drop. Companies have largely moved away from defined benefit models. However, they are still part of the pension landscape, with around 9.6 million people relying on a defined benefit scheme for their retirement income.Other sources of post-retirement income include money tied up in their home, making up 15 per cent of retirement income, and a partner’s pension pot, which contributed to 25 per cent of a retiree’s income.
