Scott Morrison has called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to impose firm sanctions on China amid the West's “benign and accommodating” approach to Beijing's 'bullying'.

Former prime minister Scott Morrison called on the Labor Government to introduce sanctions against China as he accused the West of taking an"accommodating" view to Beijing's human rights atrocities.

“ found allegations of patterns of torture or ill-treatment, including forced medical treatment and adverse conditions of detention, were credible, as were allegations of individual incidents of sexual and gender-based violence,” Mr Morrison said. Mr Morrison said the human rights abuses could not be addressed until China's strategic hegemony in the Indo-Pacific was eased.

"The application of Australia’s human rights sanctions regime is reserved for the most egregious situations of international concern,” Mr Morrison said.
