Morrisons is facing empty shelves at some of its branches due to a ransomware attack on its supply chain management software. The company is working on its backups and advises customers to be mindful of their shopping choices.

On X, a customer of Morrisons reported that their local branch had empty shelves due to a computer issue that prevented stock from being sent to stores. The software used by Morrisons to manage its warehouses, run by Blue Yonder , was hit by hackers late last week, causing disruptions in the supply chain to stores. Morrisons is currently operating on backup systems and working hard to deliver for customers across the country.

Blue Yonder confirmed a ransomware attack and is working with external cybersecurity firms to recover. The issue is not a nationwide problem, with empty shelves spotted at a number of stores across the UK. Customers are advised to look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they've been reduced, and to make a list to save money by avoiding rash purchases. Opting for own or value products instead of 'finest' or 'luxury' lines and considering wonky veg and fruit schemes run by supermarkets like Lidl can also help save money
