Summary A new image from Mortal Kombat 2 offers the best glimpse yet at the introduction of a major character from the games. Currently slated for an October 2025 release, filming on the sequel officially wrapped in January this year with several new faces added to the cast.
Claiming to have taken the photo from Mortal Kombat 2 producer Todd Garner’s phone during a recent screening of an unfinished cut, this latest image comes on the heels of Garner releasing his own series of behind-the-scenes shots that were taken during filming. Originally introduced in 1993’s Mortal Kombat II video game, Kitana plays a pivotal role in the franchise’s rich mythology and the story of the hostile realm known as Outworld. Depicted as the adopted daughter of Outworld’s Emperor Shao Kahn, and the biological daughter of the defeated King of Edenia, Jerrod, her character played a crucial role in helping the Earthrealm warriors overcome Kahn’s plans for his continued conquest.
Moreover, while Mortal Kombat 2’s cast roster has grown exponentially since the first movie, most of the sequel’s new characters bear some kind of direct relationship to Rudolph’s Kitana.
