Preston Brick Veil Mosque plans attacked by fake website using 'Columbian domain'

Local groups have warned of an anonymous website created as an "attack" on the plans for the Brick Veil Mosque plans in Preston.

Now, a local group in support of the plans have warned people of an anonymous website that "includes false and potentially defamatory content". The Friends of Broughton Mosque group say Those involved in the debate surrounding the Brick Veil Mosque proposal in North Preston should conduct discussions in a respectful and transparent way. Some opponents of the proposed mosque have launched an anonymous website, using a Colombian internet domain, to criticise the plans.

Page options are again identical to that on the real site but instead, the text under the headings talks of "Unpopular design", "Traffic nightmare" and tells people that this is "Your last chance to stop it". The "truly inspirational design" drawn up by architects Luca Poian Forms was also targeted by the anonymous attack.

"The design was selected as the winner in an international competition, without actually asking local people what they wanted. This is unusual given the historic protections in the area which this project and design contravenes."
