WASHINGTON – You'd be forgiven if you're frustrated by unexpected service fees, or being asked to tip for something you didn't used to have to tip for. A recentAccording to WalletHub, three in four Americans think tipping has gotten out of control. Half of Americans said they often leave a tip because of social pressure, instead of good service.

The survey found Americans have especially strong feelings about automatic service fees: 78% think they should be banned. Those fees can quickly inflate a bill total, especially on ticketing sites and delivery apps. Few would argue servers, valets, delivery drivers and other traditionally tipped employees should receive gratuity. However, technology can allow almost anyone to ask for a tip.
