Leigh Hutchinson, owner of Via Triozzi on Lower Greenville, was featured on a recent episode of the cooking competition.faced off against three other chefs in the Tuscany episode of the show’s Battle Italiano series, which aired May 21, 2024.The series highlights four Italian regions — Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Puglia — with four chefs competing in each regional category. The winner of each region will go head-to-head in a finale to win $25,000.
“It was probably the most stressful thing I’ve ever done,” Hutchinson said of her time on the show. “My head was like detached from my body. My muscles just knew to cook something and so I just hoped for the best.” There’s no way to prepare for the high-pressure environment of cooking in an unknown kitchen with unknown ingredients while cameras surround you, she said. And having just 20 minutes to come up with and cook a dish is as daunting as it sounds.“It’s a total adrenaline rush,” she said. “It’s almost like fight or flight mode. You just have to figure it out and go with your gut and trust your instincts.
If she were to do it again, she wouldn’t walk away from a searing steak as long as she did or have her pan as hot as it was, she said. “I’m glad I said ‘yes’ even though it was scary,” she said. “I would do it again, and I’d probably be just as scared.”, Staff Reporter.
