The Motability Scheme, which allows people on disability benefits to exchange their allowance for a new car, scooter, or wheelchair, is extending its £750 New Vehicle Payment for first-time claimants until January 3, 2025. The payment, which can be used towards an advance payment or received in full after vehicle collection, is available to those on qualifying benefits like PIP, DLA, CDP, or ADP. Existing leaseholders will continue to receive the payment with their next car.

The Motability Scheme enables people on disability benefits to exchange all or part of their qualifying weekly mobility allowance for a brand-new car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle , scooter or powered wheelchair, so they can enjoy more freedom and independence. Many people who may have had the higher mobility rates of qualifying benefits for some time, or new claimants, may not be aware of a £750 payment available to those leasing a vehicle from the Motability Scheme for the first time.

The New Vehicle Payment for cars and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles and is only available once per customer. You can check online to see if you are eligible for the £750 payment using the Motability Scheme’s tool here. It’s called a New Product Payment for scooters and powered wheelchairs, and it’s £100 instead - people get this after their new equipment has been delivered.The Motability Scheme currently has over 1,000 cars, including over 50 that require no advance payment, which means the £750 New Vehicle Payment would go directly to the claimant.
