Brian Yates has been jailed for two years
A mother was horrified to be asked to identify photographs of her child in horrific photographs seized from a mobile phone.
The images were classified as category B, the middle bracket of severity. Officers were able to identify the child and asked their mother to confirm the identity. The phone also contained category A and C images, which had been downloaded from another source, and messages outlining offences he would like to commit against the child in the photographs he had taken.
"The events of what happened have caused me a lot of emotion and mental health problems. I find myself getting angry out of nowhere at what he did to my child." Judge Sara Dodd, sentencing, said: "The vast majority of these cases involve people who download material from the internet. Your case is very different. Clearly the offences of making category B images are the most serious. It is very clear this was a very severe breach of trust, bearing in mind the age and vulnerability of the child, who was as young as eight months old.
