Laura Evans, a former inspector with Merseyside Police, faced burnout and transformed her life into a self-care and wellness brand, Busy Bee Boutique, after an eye-opening moment on Facebook.
Laura Evans, from Aughton, now operates the Busy Bee Boutique, a self-care and wellness brand, and frequently showcases her products at local markets. It marks a significant shift from her former role as an inspector with Merseyside Police, where she had aspirations of eventually becoming the chief constable.
"I had post-natal depression after having him. I went back to work and thought I could go at a million miles an hour like before but I couldn't. "I really wanted to lead and make a difference. All of a sudden, I felt useless. I kind of knew I wasn't going to get better but didn't want to know. "When you break a leg, people rally around you. When you’re chronically unwell all the time, people get bored of it - I'm bored of it.
Laura has now been diagnosed with autism and ADHD herself. Looking back, she feels the structured and high-pressure nature of working in the police masked her neuro divergent symptoms. As James grew older, she felt the nature of the work was making it difficult to look after him. "We love making bath bombs and creating potions - we’ve definitely tried to harness them in a host of different ways to support him and it’s really helped. If he feels like I can help and it's okay when you're emotionally dysregulated, hopefully he’ll get some healthy coping mechanisms."
